"I, Patrick, A Sinner..."; A Tale Worth Telling

by Stephanie Lavenia Swinnea

Basing her novel on Saint Patrick's own Confession and his "Letter to Coroticus," this author researched the ancient cultures and politics of Ireland, Rome, Britannia, Gaul, early Christian Church politics, monasticism, and heresies, and the ancient religion of the Druids for several years. She explored forty literary references, several videos and engaged a number of Celtic research enthusiasts. "I, Patrick, A Sinner..." is the fruit.

The book jacket reads:

Captured by pirates! Forced into slavery!

Proud Roman citizenship and British nobility made no impression on the savage Irish Scots. Could they break the arrogant youth? Starved, humiliated, naked and beaten, Patrick turned to the god of his grandfather and found the faith to endure. Led, after six grueling years, to escape, Patrick found himself out of place as a British noble in the crumbling Roman Empire. But what was he fit for? The answer came in a terrifying call.

"Go back to Ireland? Submit my neck to the Irish yoke again? You can't ask this of me, Lord!" ...But He did.

Patrick charted his course for the land of his nightmares. Tempted and beguiled by his own personal passions, betrayed by king and bishop, subjected to slavery and brutality once again, Patrick stood on the threshold of death a dozen times, but love would not permit him to quit.
